Week in Review...

Another great article came out on May 19, this one in the Prescott Valley Tribune. Cheryl Hartz wrote such an incredible story. I mean, she covered every.single.aspect of the business. It was truly wonderful to read and I called and emailed my thanks profusely. (Even though I committed a massive media faux pas: I scheduled two reporters at nearly the same time at my home. Yikes!)

Both reporters contacted me and since I was giving a demonstration in my home, I thought, why not?! Let's just have everyone over at the same time. No no no no no. Don't do that. Don't ever do that. Or, at least, tell each reporter about the situation beforehand.

Anyway, from that article I got a few local orders. I love making deliveries! I even received my first order through a relay system by a deaf customer. It was really exciting and when I delivered his cookies I got to practice what little ASL I can still recall.

This past Wednesday was a very exciting day. I was contacted by the marketing director for Ling & Louie's Asian Bar and Grill in Scottsdale, AZ. He and the regional manager tried my cookies at an event I did down there several weeks ago. They were over the moon and really wanted my cookies in their restaurant. I was asked to create an exclusive flavor for them. So my wheels were turning! I ended up creating coconut filling and an almond filling, I called "Fortune Cookie."

My husband - an amazing designer - created these mock-up tags with the restaurants logo and such.

The marketing director was so tickled, he pulled out his phone and took a picture to share with other executives.

I arrived just a few minutes early and the man I was meeting was just a few minutes late. Just enough time for me to ask the friendly waitress to snag me two scoops of vanilla ice cream to put in these perfect cups I discovered. Splicing in four of my mini chocolate chip cookies, I wanted to display another option for serving up these amazing cookies.

The meeting went very well, overall. I still have a great deal to learn about pricing and selling my product to venues. I try to reach out to people, but I don't think I am asking the correct questions. Or I am asking people who are too busy. Whatever it is, I can say this for sure: from every experience I have on this journey, I learn something new. I know it will only help me with the next situation.

At this point, I am waiting for a solid proposal and I am looking for a commercial kitchen to use. Currently, I am using the kitchen at the Prescott Racquet Club. However, that kitchen is only available to me on weekends and only if they do not have tennis tournaments. The location is inconvenient, as is hauling in all of my tools and supplies.

I've asked our Realtor and he's on the lookout. I've also asked a chef I was introduced to, but cannot locate now. I've even placed an ad on Craigslist. I'm basically asking anyone and everyone I know. Ultimately, I would like to build a kitchen on our property. We have an HOA - of which I am on the board - so I need to go over all the regulations to make sure I do it properly. I had the great idea of employing mothers: We would all rotate days or weeks of watching the kids in the house. I thought that was brilliant!

What an exciting week!

Last Sunday, an article came out in the Daily Courier. It was a well written article I thought, however, as you can read in the comments, the writer did not address the fact that the cookies are baked at the Prescott Racquet Club. I would love to meet the girl who shared the article with me, Black Crow Caramels.

From that article, I received several local orders and did my first deliveries this week! It worked out really well and I have a few more super happy customers out there.

Also this week, we launched our new and improved website. It took a lot of work and hours of frustration, but Oh Katie! Cookies now accepts major credit cards, Visa, Mastercard, and Discovery Card. (Does anyone really have a Discovery Card?)

Finally, last night I did an event down in Scottsdale for Girls Only Guide Out. It was a lot of fun! There were some great vendors. The best part? The event was held in front of Ling & Louie's Asian Bar and Grill and the General Manager, along with all the staff, flipped his lid over my cookies! He said he didn't know what or how, but he had to have my cookies in his restaurant. It was very exciting!

After the event ended, Kristi Trimmer, who came and helped me for the event, bought me a birthday dinner at Ling & Louie's. I can't tell you how neat it was to tell the hostess, as we were seated, to "let the GM know that Katie of Oh Katie! Cookies would love to see him when he gets a chance." And then to have him come right out and tell me how amazing my cookies are. It was all very exciting! Oh, and the food! One must try the F'n Loaded Sliders!
